International Orthoptic Association (IOA)

Membership of the OA includes membership of the IOA and member access to the IOA website.

The objectives of the IOA, as set forth by its charter, are:

  • to teach the science of orthoptics worldwide,
  • to maintain a high standard of education for those who study orthoptics around the globe, and
  • to provide a forum that will bring together orthoptists, ophthalmologists and scientific researchers internationally to share their concepts, ideas and techniques.

The scientific congress is an arena for new and innovative ideas.  Committees work throughout the year and throughout the world.  Educational materials are provided to those who are not members of the IOA and to those who have been unable to attend IOA congresses.  The IOA works in an advisory capacity upon request to review and structure curricula in an effort to standardize orthoptic training worldwide.

Membership of the IOA numbers over 5,000 orthoptists and ophthalmologists. ioa2012.jpg
