Australian Orthoptic Board (AOB)
  • Are you registered with the AOB?
  • Do you participate in the CPE program?
  • Are you a member of the Orthoptic Association of Australia Inc (OA)

Many public health institutions employing orthoptists require that their orthoptic staff are registered with the AOB, as do Australian private health funds. It is also becoming a pre-requisite in many private practices throughout Australia that orthoptists need to be registered with the AOB.

The AOB assesses orthoptists with Australian and overseas qualifications for registration in Australia and also performs a disciplinary function.  While registration is not compulsory to practise, the OA encourages orthoptists to register with the Board and participate in the Continuing Professional Education program (CPE) to gain credit towards a Certificate of Currency.

Registration must be applied for every two years.  Orthoptists registered with the AOB may submit a CPE claim and a Certificate of Currency will be awarded if sufficient points have been accrued.

The OA offers accredited continuing education and upskilling.

There is opportunity for all orthoptists, in metropolitan and rural areas, to maintain an extremely high standard of proficiency in their profession by:

1.   being an OA member

2.   registering with the AOB

3.   maintaining their Certificate of Currency.

The OAA recommends that orthoptists register with the AOB, maintain a current Certificate of Currency and are members of their national professional organisation, the Orthoptic Association of Australia Inc.
