Membership

Orthoptics Australia is the national peak body for orthoptists in Australia. The Association provides a range of services including representation of orthoptists and their interests.

We recognise that our members are the Association. Without the support and work of members, we could not represent the profession or achieve our aims. As part of expanding our membership to facilitate the growth of our profession and thanking our loyal members, we have implemented a membership fee structure based on a rewards program.

We also recognise that orthoptic students represent the future of our profession. In order to introduce students to the Association and the direction and values of our profession, students are given a highly discounted membership rate with a rewards program. This means that the longer a student is a member, the greater the discount they will receive as graduates.

Membership Fee Structure

The fee structure is based on a loyalty program. Those who retain their membership for longer will be rewarded through a discounted membership rate. The new membership fee structure includes 3 levels: Gold, Silver and Bronze. New members begin at the Bronze level and progress towards Gold with each successive year of membershup renewal.

Membership Categories

Membership of the Orthoptics Australia is available in the following membership categories:
  • Ordinary - a graduate of an orthoptic course, recognised by the Association, or holds a certificate of registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board.
  • Part Time - an orthoptist who meets the criteria for ordinary membership, but is engaged in part time work which on average includes no more than eight (8) hours per week from an eye health related employment.
