Message from the President

Dear Colleagues,

Last week I represented OA at the Vision 2020 CEO’s Forum and Parliamentary Friends Group for Eye Health and Vision Care dinner in Canberra. It was a fascinating event held as the bells rang throughout Parliament House all day calling members to the Chamber. It is a rare occasion to get all Vision 2020 members in one place and is a time for both formal and informal meetings.

Marion joined me in Canberra to progress the universal pre-school screening program on behalf of OA. There was an extremely positive response from all the discussions thanks to Marion’s work. We had a planned meeting with Fiona Martin MP, however as is often the nature during parliamentary sittings, the meeting was cancelled and re-arranged for the following day. Thank you to Maryanne Gregory from ACT who stepped in on my behalf.

Thank you to everyone who answered the call to participate in the member survey on ‘orthoptists and intravitreal injections’. Over 100 members responded within 48 hours suggesting a strong professional interest in the topic and a desire to have your voices heard. Through the data collected and with valuable advice obtained from a number of sources, we have prepared a submission to the MBS Review Taskforce.

Congratulations to the Latrobe University final year students on a successful Clinical Education Conference! The conference allows the students to organise the event, plan the scientific program and for the students to present their oral and poster presentations.

Best wishes,

What's New
“Rear Vision:  Celebrating Australia’s Early Orthoptists” book deposited in National and State Libraries

Whilst in Canberra, Jane and Marion took the opportunity to meet Jill Gordon, co-author of “Rear Vision:  Celebrating Australia’s Early Orthoptists”.   Jill shared more about orthoptics in NSW and told some fascinating stories.  It is wonderful that the early history of Australia’s orthoptists has finally eventuated and that it is now safely ensconced in the archives of the National Library Canberra and State Libraries of New South Wales and Victoria.

Purchase your copy of "Rear Vision" here.

Price: $36.36 (includes delivery to your home - excludes GST)
