Dr Kate Reid is a Neuro-ophthalmologist, senior staff specialist at Canberra Hospital and founding Director of the Department of Ophthalmology in ANU. In addition, she is the Director and senior clinical lecturer of the ANU Medical Student Ophthalmology Program.
We are privileged to have her present the two-part series “Optic Nerve Teaching for Orthoptists” (ONTO) which will be held on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The course covers the most common extrinsic and intrinsic optic neuropathies (excluding glaucoma) and look at differential diagnoses and new treatment paradigms for: IIH, compression from thyroid eye disease and tumours, AION, optic neuritis, and drug toxicity.
The following learning objectives of the course are:
1. Localising symptoms and signs in visual loss
2. Normal variants in OCT RNFL
3.Typical presentations of common optic neuropathies
4. Distinguish between common optic neuropathies
5. Principles of treatment for common optic neuropathies
6. Monitoring treatment in common optic neuropathies
Presentation - Sunday Morning
Liane will be presenting on the ethics of treatment and patient expectations. In addition, she will be sharing some valuable guidelines and insight into setting up a private practice, treatment options and protocols. Learn what new innovations there are available to use in orthoptic treatment.
