Message from the President

Dear Colleagues,

Each year our nation celebrates the achievements and contributions of outstanding Australians through the Australian of the Year Awards.  We wish to congratulate ophthalmologist Dr James Muecke AM as Australian of the Year. In 2020, this is a wonderful acknowledgment of his dedication and ongoing commitment to the prevention of blindness and raising awareness of the devastating effect that diabetes can have on vision.

The 2020 OA event calendar is filling up with CPD events. Remember to register early to take advantage of early bird prices exclusively for members. You can also check your event registrations, access CPD certificates and download copies of your tax invoices all under ‘My OA Profile’ on the OA website.

In the next few weeks, I will be attending the first AHPA Member Collaborative Forum that is scheduled to occur alongside the Allied Health Round Table on the Primary Health Reform and the AHPA meeting with Minister Greg Hunt. Vision2020 policy committees begin their meetings in February.

In 2020, you will continue to see our monthly column in Insight Magazine featuring many of your orthoptic colleagues.  Breanna and Prem from the PR committee have begun work on the strategy and content for the 2020 Orthoptic Awareness Week (June 1-5) campaign and this will include a number of further media articles around the theme of children’s vision.

Best wishes,
