Orthoptic education in Australia is currently undertaken at two locations: La Trobe University in Melbourne; and UTS: Graduate School of Health, Discipline of Orthoptics. The orthoptics profession boasts among the highest education standards world-wide, with Australia recognised as being the first country to offer a University Bachelor Degree program in orthoptics.

Microbiology
Ophthalmic Pathology
Neuro-ophthalmology
Pharmacology & Therapeutics
Binocular Vision
Concomitant & Incomitant Strabismus
Paediatric Eye Care
Low Vision
Evidence Based Practice.
In recent years La Trobe University and in 2015 the UTS, Graduate School of Health, Sydney have introduced a Master level course, as well as higher degree research programs such as Professional Doctorates and PhDs.
Graduates are recognised internationally, and become eligible for membership with Orthoptics Australia and registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board.
The below degree programs are designed to develop professional expertise for orthoptic clinical practice. Clinical placements form an integral component of the courses, and in both programs, students gain clinical experience in hospital and specialist clinical settings.
