Volunteering with OA

Volunteering with OA

Orthoptics Australia’s (OA) belongs to its members and is run by members who volunteer their time.

OA’s purpose is to represent orthoptists in Australia with the vision of supporting orthoptists to provide excellence and equity in eye health care.

The commitment of our volunteers is essential to the ongoing success of OA.

Our volunteers create the system of committees, working groups, representatives, branch and board functions that make up OA and support orthoptists through the provision of membership benefits (such as CPD events) as well as advocate for the orthoptic profession.

Volunteers contribute to OA in many ways including but not limited to:

  • Helping run OA’s social media

  • Administering OA’s Grants and Awards program

  • Representing OA in your workplace or State

  • Planning the annual conference or CPD initiatives

  • Helping on event days

  • Promoting Orthoptics Awareness Week

You can hear some of our members explaining what they do in their volunteer roles and why they do it here in a recording of the 2024 Demystifying the OA Board and Volunteers Webinar here.  More detail on OA’s committees, working groups and representatives can be found here and the state representation here.

Members who contribute to OA in either National or State representative positions can apply to the Australian Orthoptic Board for CPD points in Category 4.3 Service to the Profession.

Do you want to be involved?

OA invites members interested in contributing to the growth of the organisation to email office@orthoptics.org.au to discuss their interests and options for getting involved.
