We are pleased to welcome orthoptists to Melbourne as part of this special Orthoptics Australia event held concurrently with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology (RANZCO) Congress 2025.

OA will be hosting a full day of scientific presentations and advocacy discussions designed to educate, inform and inspire action toward advancing research, policy and community engagement. Orthoptics Australia will be hosting their 2025 AGM as part of this event.

Non-Member:    $375.00

Attendees will have access to the RANZCO Congress sessions on Saturday 15th November and the RANZCO Exhibition. Registration for this event includes catering for the day- morning tea, lunch (with RANZCO delegates in the Exhibition Hall) and afternoon tea. Registration also includes attendance at the Orthoptics Australia cocktail event following the conclusion of the event program.

The Fred Hollows Lecture (RANZCO): Dr Sandra Staffieri, AO

Retinoblastoma Awareness in Oceania – An Odyssey

Orthoptics Australia Fellow Dr Sandra Staffieri will be presenting the 2025 Fred Hollows Lecture as part of the RANZCO Congress Program. Dr Staffieri will be presenting her extensive research aimed at increasing awareness of retinoblastoma to increase early detection and treatment.

Neuro-orthoptics and Strabismus

This session will focus on neuro-orthoptics including, orthoptic work in acquired brain injuries and strabismus with an emphasis on interesting case presentations and application to clinical practice.

Innovation in Orthoptics

Innovations in orthoptic practice and eye care more broadly including use of technology, digital health, artificial intelligence and new models of practice will be explored through a series of talks highlighting advancements in the area and how these can apply to orthoptic practice.

OA Strategic Workshop: Future of the Orthoptic Profession

Drawing on evidence from the 2025 Orthoptic Workforce Survey, in this ‘roundtable’ session, delegates will be invited to discuss approaches to addressing challenges for the orthoptic profession, ways that we would like to shape the future of the profession and directions for advocacy through Orthoptics Australia. Orthoptic scope of practice, regulation, workforce distribution and the broader eye health landscape will be discussed. Outcomes of the workshop will be captured to inform the ongoing work of Orthoptics Austtralia.

This session will discuss new research and clinical directions in ocular genetics, genetic counselling and stem cell and genetic therapies through a series of invited speakers with extensive research and clinical experience in this area of practice.
